I’m not a doctor, and don’t play one in real life, but…

No, I’m not a doctor, but . . . here’s what I know:

There’s a lot more to life than meets the naked eye.

And being an HSP, a Highly Sensitive Person, is a heck of a lot more than it’s cracked up to be.

Having a spiritually/energetically inclined approach to “HSP-ism” was and has continued to be the only route worth taking, and the only one that has guided me so happily in my life of purpose, passion, and potential.

What is a “spiritually/energetically inclined approach???

Stop Over Thinking by Alane Freund

There are a number of people in this field of the HSP, empaths, and so on (mostly women, it should be noted, as if we’re the only ones who come under this label) who have led the way. These doctors, psychiatrists, equine therapists, and psychologists have lots of certifications under their belts; they are the pioneers in the field. Without them, people like Dr. Judith Orloff (drjudithorloff.com), Dr. Elaine Aron (https://hsperson.com), and Alane Freund, LMFT (alanefreund.com), we’d probably still be stuck in the Dark Ages of thought where any sign of sensitivity was linked to hysteria, vulnerability, and weakness.

In other words, nothing good could ever come of it. Or of the people who had it.

Calling All HSPs: I’m not a doctor, but . . .

Coping with it . . . Fixing it . . . Putting a Band-Aid on it . . . ?

The thing that I really wanted to flip around was the idea that, while it may be okay—even wonderful in some worlds—to be an HSP—it could only be a good thing if you figured out how to deal with it, cope with it, put a Band-Aid on it . . . get the world to understand it (and you). In other words, to protect yourself . . . from yourself.

I always knew there had to be more to it. Another way that didn’t require so much energy, so much work, and so much fixing.

Even the idea of “transforming negative emotions into positive ones” (Emotional Freedom, Orloff, 2009) holds within it the idea, as it says in the subtitle, that what we need to do is “Liberate [Ourselves] from Negative Emotions and Transform [Our] Life.”

The truth is that I agree with Dr. Orloff and others who have stepped into this arena and paved the way for the rest of us, and whom I admire and respect tremendously. What I am here to do is help HSPs take another step into self-awareness that celebrate us and elevate us with tools that make it easier to exist in the world—not only tools that protect you from it.

That’s why I wrote The Gateway Café, too, a novel that reminds us all relax, open our hearts, explore new territory (through interdimensional travel or any other way!), release, and reflect.

Freedom to, not freedom from

These tools may seem new to you in that they go inward, involve you with you, your inner nature, and what you feel somatically more than what you feel emotionally. These tools may take some practice, but are so inherently freeing that practicing becomes second nature because it simply feels so darn good.

  • Freedom to express yourself.
  • Freedom to love yourself.
  • Freedom to respect yourself.
  • Freedom to feel so aligned that you never have to worry about “other people’s energy” ever again.

Does that sound good to you?

Yeah, to me, too.
